Boston Neighborhood Network's Youth Media Initiatives provide a safe and supportive setting to educate youth under the age of 21 years in media arts and emerging technologies for use in self-expression, communication and social change. Through strategic partnerships, community grants and individual supporters, young people from all walks of life have an opportunity to share their ideas as well as raise visibility around the value of youth voices and perspectives using BNN’s media resources.
Despite the limited availability of funding for youth programs in recent years, we have continued to provide many ways for young people to participate and feel empowered. Your help is needed today to sustain and expand our youth opportunities year-round.
As BNN celebrates its 30th year anniversary we continue to strengthen our programs and offer more opportunities for youth participation.
- The BNN InFocus Youth Media Program is an intensive summer multimedia training program for Boston youth and youth-serving organizations. InFocus gives youth hands-on experience in television production and access to BNN production resources and channel time.
- ExtraHelp is a weekly television series providing homework help to Boston students. For over 20 years, elementary, middle and high school students have been able to call this live show from home to receive homework help from teachers in Math, Science, Language Arts and Reading.
- Each summer our mobile production truck travels to Boston ROCK’s events in neighborhoods all over the city. Young people work behind the cameras, perform in front of them, gain insight about how TV programs are created, and learn that this is something they can do themselves.
- We produce Game of the Week in partnership with Boston City TV and Boston Public Schools. Over 50 programs each year showcase the talents of dedicated student-athletes and present action-packed high school games for sports fans to enjoy.
But even in this digital age, where access to media seems to be everywhere, there are still groups who fall through the cracks. Please add your name to the many individuals and organizations that share BNN’s goals to educate and create community through media and help us continue what we started 30 years ago with a tax-deductible gift. Your contribution will be recoginzed on our two television channels, website, and in our Annual Report.
Your support of BNN ensures access for all, especially the youth of Boston. Please donate generously to BNN and help us empower Boston youth. Make your secure online donation today.
